You are a part of God’s end-time plan. This is your year of new beginnings. God has not planned any defeats for you. He has planned victory for you in every circumstance, every trial, and every temptation. Jesus engaged the enemy in combat in the fullness of the Holy Spirit and conquered him. God has planned for you to do the same.
When God sent Jesus into the battle in the form of human flesh to defeat Satan, Jesus was fully equipped and fully prepared for battle. In the Jordan River, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove as He was baptized. As a result, He was full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1).
Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He was further prepared. He left the wilderness in the power of the Spirit and went to Galilee (Luke 4:14). There, He began to fulfill the plan and purpose God had for His life. Jesus immediately began to take power and authority over the power of Satan.
Here are the 4 most important strategies that Jesus used to defeat Satan with while He was on earth: Jesus faced Satan in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
- Jesus broke the power of sin. He told the man, who was sick from the palsy: “Man, thy sins are forgiven thee (Luke 5:20).” The scribes and Pharisees said to themselves: “Who is this which speaketh such blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone (Luke 5:21)?” Jesus told them:
Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things today.Luke 5:23-26
- Jesus broke the power of sickness. He told the woman who had a spirit of infirmity and had been bowed down for eighteen years: “Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity (Luke 13:12).” When the ruler of the synagogue became angry because Jesus healed her on the Sabbath, Jesus told him:
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?Luke 13:16
- Jesus broke the power of death. When Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “…Lazarus, come forth,” Lazarus came out of the grave, bound hand and foot, with his grave clothes still on him (John 11:43-44).
- Jesus broke the bondage of Satan. Under the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, Jesus commanded evil spirits to leave those who were bound. To the demon-possessed man of Gadara, He spoke the word and commanded the demons to leave the man and to enter the swine instead, and a legion of devils were cast out (Matthew 8:32).
The people were amazed at the power and authority that Jesus had over evil spirits.
And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! For with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
Luke 4:36
Through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, Jesus was given authority—the right to exercise power—over the devil, and the miracle-working power of God to destroy him!
God has a plan of victory for you. He has planned for you to have an experience, a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit that will take you beyond the point of blessing, beyond intellectual knowledge, to the point where there is a continual flow of the dunamis power of Almighty God in your life.
This week, dedicate your time and effort to prayer. Make a new commitment to be willing to do whatever is necessary to have God’s power flowing through your life. Reach out, and receive a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit upon your life. Receive the revelation within your spirit that God has not planned for you to be defeated in any of the circumstances you may be facing right now.

God has not planned any defeats for me. I must no longer look at my problems and circumstances as battles that I must struggle to fight and win in my own strength. I must look at them as spiritual conquests and territories that I am going to conquer in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
