  • Many people do not walk in victory because they are hanging onto the past . . . and all of its bitterness, disappointments, and defeats.
  • You are not what the devil says you are . . .

One of the major strategies Satan is using today to weaken and hinder the Church from taking its position of power is to keep the past before us as a stumbling block. But there is a bright and victorious future for all who will realize that there is great freedom in the cross of Jesus.

Satan uses your past sins and failures to try and convince you that you are not worthy of the blessings that Jesus has already paid for you. He tries to keep you so focused on who you used to be that you won’t be able to become who you are meant to be.

Beloved, it is time to let go of the past and head straight for the loving arms of Jesus, Who will take you by the hand and lead you into great victory. The victory may be a process, but it surely will come if you don’t give up.

If you allow Satan, he will keep you chained to your past, agonizing over what you could have done, should have done differently. Those painful memories will weigh you down and prevent you from moving forward.

To release your past, you must first get rid of the feelings that bind you to the past-anger, resentment, bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness, self-pity, and other negative feelings. You must take authority over your feelings and emotions and bring them into submission with the Holy Spirit’s help.

Then you must bring your past, with its sin, hurts, disappointments, and failures to the cross and lay it at the feet of Jesus. Through the one perfect sacrifice of His own life, Christ condemned sin and set us free from its bondage, including our past. We are dead to sin. The past is dead and buried, and we are set free to live a victorious life through Christ Jesus.

The power of sin over our lives has been broken, and we are to consider our bodies dead to sin … our relationship to it ended … and our spirits are alive to God.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

I Peter 2:24

Beloved, when you realize that your past sins and failures were a result of you being lured into the devil’s snare, you will grow wiser to his tactics and be able to resist his temptations. It’s just a matter of refusing to allow him access to your mind. Don’t be sucked in to dwelling on your past mistakes, or your current problems. Keep your eyes on the cross.

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

II Corinthians 10:4-5

Say this faith declaration out loud: Dear Father, I repent of my past mistakes, and I repent of dwelling on the past instead of keeping my eyes focused on You. Thank You for the victory that I have through Jesus over every past hurt.
