When we take the mask off and look honestly at the Church today, we can see that sin has so infiltrated the Church that it is difficult to distinguish Christians from the world. The Church is full of HYPOCRITES … so-called Christians who are professing to live a holy life, but are fulfilling the lusts of their flesh.

There are those professing to be Christians who go to church, dance, shout and praise the Lord, but the minute they walk out the door, they begin to spread gossip, criticize and tear down the pastor or other members of the Body of Christ.

There are men and women who are bound by lust, and who are involved in adulterous relationships, yet see nothing wrong with it. They feel they can continue illicit relationships and still be Christians.

There are so-called Christians today who think nothing of lying, stealing or cheating on their jobs. They take days off and call in sick, take supplies home from the office, take extra time at coffee breaks and extend their lunch hours.

There are Christian businessmen who think nothing of lying or cheating on their income taxes, who cheat their customers, who purposely misrepresent the facts, who become involved in questionable business deals with unbelievers.

There are Christians who allow their hearts and minds to be filled with all sorts of evil imaginations and fantasies. They watch R-rated movies, filled with foul language, sex and violence. They tell dirty jokes on the job, read cheap romance novels and watch “soaps” on television.

In many churches today, worldliness is no longer condemned but is encouraged through doctrines that are being preached which cause Christians to set their affections on the things of this world, and teach them to seek after material possessions.

There are men and women filling our churches today who outwardly appear to be righteous, who have a form of godliness, but are filled with hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, pride, greed, jealousy and other ungodly attitudes.

The Word of God teaches us to DENY ungodliness and worldly lusts. Paul told Titus:

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.

Titus 2:11-12

Peter told believers:

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

I Peter 2:1, NIV

The Word of God teaches us that we are not to love the world or the things in this world.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

I John 2:15

When we lust after the material possessions of this world and its pleasures, we are committing spiritual adultery. James warned believers:

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is in enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

James 4:4

In the church today, we no longer hear sermons preached on self-denial, crucifixion of self or separation from the world. They are not popular. People do not want to hear that they must die to self, and to the world. Instead of sermons on holiness, dedication and consecration, ministers are preaching and teaching what people want to hear … how to be successful … self-fulfillment … how to prosper, and use your faith and the Word to obtain worldly possessions.

In this new decade, we will see a growing apostasy within the Church. As persecution comes, there will be those who will compromise with the world rather than endure persecution for the Gospel. There are those who will be deceived and will turn away from the faith.

In this new decade, as the Church continues to become polluted through compromise and sin, there will be a separation between the ungodly compromisers and the true saints of God who are walking before Him in holiness. God’s Victorious Army will triumph and be on the side to claim victory over evil in this new decade!
