  • How to Hear God’s Voice When You’re Desperate for an Answer- ChristianityToday.com

The Almighty God, Whose voice shook the heavens and caused the earth to tremble, STILL SPEAKS TO HIS PEOPLE TODAY! God has spoken to me many times over my more than seventy years of ministry … sometimes audibly and other times, He has spoken by His Spirit in my inner man, and given me a specific Word for the Body of Christ. That same mighty God still speaks today to those who are ready and willing to hear and obey Him!

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Colossians 1:9-10

God’s purposes for speaking to us are not just so that we can feel good. Neither is it something we should take lightly. Every time He speaks, He has specific purposes to fulfill.

God speaks to us:

  1. To strengthen, edify, and encourage us personally
  2. To give us direction
  3. To reveal His purposes and will for our lives
  4. To instruct, warn, and exhort the Body of Christ

The result of hearing the voice of God is never destruction nor confusion. It is always peace. It always fulfills the will of God and accomplishes His purposes. He doesn’t speak in any way and then go contrary to His written Word or His revealed purposes. His leading and direction will bring you into fulfillment of what He has promised. Within the sound of God’s voice is the awesome power and authority to fulfill all He speaks!

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

Psalm 29:2-4

From the beginning of time, God chose to commune with and speak to man. From the first account of Adam and Eve in the garden to warning Noah about the flood, God has entered into a covenant relationship with us. Noah heard God’s voice and responded in faith. God spoke to Abram and gave him divine direction. Abram heard and responded in faith to God’s voice and obeyed.

… I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Genesis 15:1

There are times when God speaks today and asks us to do difficult things and we question if it is really His voice. We may hesitate to act in faith upon what God has spoken to us because we are unsure of His voice. Again, I say to you, draw close to the Lord. There is no substitute! Hearing the voice of God must be a normal occurrence in your life … not the exception. You should be walking in continual communion with God … being led and directed by Him.
