What does it mean to be full of the Holy Spirit?

Being full of the Holy Spirit is not an instantaneous work void of personal involvement. It is not a matter of someone laying hands on you and praying for you, and then instantaneously you receive all of the knowledge, fruit of the Spirit, gifts of the Spirit, and all of the power of God manifested in your life at once.

Being filled with and walking in the Spirit are a continual process, whereby you are working in cooperation with the Holy Spirit. For example, one of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to convict you and reveal to you any works of the flesh that are still operating in your life. Once He has revealed these to you, you must yield yourself to God. You must surrender those areas to Him. You must depend on and draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit to crucify those works of the flesh.

When writing to the believers in the church at Galatia, Paul gave them the following instructions:

But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

Galatians 5:16, AMPC

Paul listed the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. Then he went on to state:

And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires. If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]

Galatians 5:24-25, AMPC

You must understand what it means to live in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Living in the Spirit is a continual relationship. It is not a roller coaster experience, where a person is on a spiritual high one day and down in the pits of despair, discouragement, and defeat the next day. It is a day-to-day experience. The Spirit is at work in our life daily.

…Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

John 19:30, NIV (emphasis added)

The prayer of my heart for you today is that God will bring you beyond the point of blessing and beyond head knowledge into an experience where you are living your life in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

Say this faith declaration out loud:

God has not planned any defeats for me. I must no longer look at my problems and circumstances as battles that I must struggle to fight and win in my own strength. I must look at them as spiritual conquests and territories that I am going to conquer in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
