Beloved, do you know why we haven’t been able to experience true unity in the Spirit? Why we haven’t been able to exercise the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit? What are the barriers that hinder us from working together as one united Body of Christ? If Christians are not united, how can we demonstrate the fullness of Christ’s glory and power?

The Psalmist tells us:

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Psalm 133:1

A powerful, supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit was released within the Body of Christ on the day of the Pentecost. It molded the believers together into a mighty, united force that could not be destroyed.

When God released the Holy Spirit upon them, they became one in the Spirit. They were drawn together by one common desire and one united purpose. All of the differences that might have separated them were overcome by their common cause.

God is bringing the Body of Christ to full unity. We must make a strong commitment to walk in the unity of the Spirit.

Let’s look at the Body of Christ through God’s eyes:

  • Realize that we are one Body.
  • Recognize that the Holy Spirit is the giver of unity.
  • Walk in 100 percent submission and obedience to Jesus.
  • Be joined together with one mind and in one accord.
  • Step into your God-appointed position within the Body of Christ.

Jesus prayed for the unity of all believers. He prayed that we would be united as one. The unity that Jesus was referring to in this prayer was not an outward unity. It was not a man-made unity. It was not of the mind, or intellectual belief … it was a spiritual unity. It is about being bonded to one another in a shared yearning for the heart of God.

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

John 17:20-21, emphasis added

When Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, he explained that God had placed within the Church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers for the purpose of perfecting, building up, and bringing the Body to maturity.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Ephesians 4:11-12

Paul devoted the entire fourth chapter of Ephesians to the importance of having unity in the Church:

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Ephesians 4:13, emphasis added

Jesus came to restore the perfect unity with the Father, and with each other, that mankind had lost. Through His death on the Cross, Jesus removed every barrier that was hindering mankind from experiencing unity and peace with God and one another.

Through His precious blood, we are joined together with Him into one. He has made us one with Him and each other. We are one Body. The same Spirit that was in Him, now flows through us.
