GOD HAS PLEDGED HIMSELF TO US IN EVERLASTING LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS
Now, look at Ezekiel 16:8…
“As I passed by again, I saw that the time had come for you to fall in love. I covered your naked body with my coat and promised to love you. Yes, I made a marriage covenant with you, and you became mine.” This is what the Sovereign LORD says” (GNB).
Here, Israel is compared to a child who has now grown and matured into womanhood. God blessed Israel and caused them to multiply while they were still in Egypt. The more they were afflicted, the more they multiplied. Then, as a man takes a bride and betroths himself to her, God brought Israel out of Egyptian bondage to Mount Sinai where He entered into a covenant with them.
God joined Himself together with Israel, as a husband is joined in marriage to a wife. He set Israel apart as His bride… His own prized possession. He pledged His everlasting love and faithfulness to Israel with an oath that He promised never to break.
This is the same type of love God has for us!
While we were still unworthy and undeserving of His love, God looked down and chose us to be HIS VERY OWN. As a man takes a bride and betroths himself to her, God, through Christ, has joined Himself to us as ONE. We are married to Him. He has entered into a covenant where He has betrothed…pledged… Himself to us in everlasting love and faithfulness.
He has set us apart for Himself as His own prized possession. We belong to Him, and He belongs to us. We are the object of His love!
In verse 9, God told Israel: “Then I took water and washed the blood off you. I rubbed olive oil on your skin” (GNB).
God, in His great love and mercy, looked upon Israel in her outcast condition…polluted and corrupted by sin. He caused her to live. He protected and nourished her, and He took her as His bride. Then, He thoroughly cleansed her of her filth and pollution, and anointed her as His bride. He lavished His love upon Israel and “clothed” her nakedness in beautiful robes, and adorned her with jewelry of gold and silver. Look at verses 10-14. God told Israel:
“I dressed you in embroidered gowns and gave you shoes of the best leather, a linen headband, and a silk cloak. I put jewels on you bracelets and necklaces. I gave you a nose ring and earrings and a beautiful crown to wear. You had ornaments of gold and silver, and you always wore clothes of embroidered linen and silk. You ate bread made from the best flour, and had honey and olive oil to eat. Your beauty was dazzling, and you became a queen. You became famous in every nation for your perfect beauty, because I was the one who made you so lovely” (Ezekiel 16:1014, GNB)
Through the covenant God entered into with Israel, He poured out His love upon His people. He clothed them in His righteousness. He blessed them abundantly above all the other nations of the earth. He prospered all the work of their hands. He gave them a plush, fertile land, drove out their enemies and gave them the spoils of the land…gold, silver, houses, vineyards, livestock. He brought them to the height of prosperity and power until they were known throughout the nations.
In these verses, we also see the great love God has poured out upon us. Not only has He chosen us, set us apart as His very own, and thoroughly cleansed us from the filth and corruption of sin; He has “clothed” us in fine linen…pure, white robes of righteousness. Like a husband pouring out His love upon his bride, God has poured out His riches upon us through the covenant we have entered into with Him.
Through our union with Him, He has exalted us and made us joint-heirs with Christ, sharing His inheritance with Him (Romans 8:17).
He has made us to sit together with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).
He has given us free access to all that He has. “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32). He has blessed us above the nations of the earth, and made provision that all our needs be met. He has anointed and clothed us with His power and glory, and has given us all power, authority and dominion!
GOD’S LOVE AND MERCY TOWARD US ENDURES FOREVER
Israel rejected God’s love. Instead of returning His love, they turned their backs on Him and began worshipping idols of wood and stone. God told Israel: “You are like a woman who commits adultery with strangers instead of loving her husband…You stripped off your clothes, and like a prostitute, you gave yourself to your lovers and to all your disgusting idols, and you killed your children as sacrifices to idols” (Ezekiel 16:32,36, GNB).
Israel forgot the lovingkindness God had shown toward them. God said: “During your disgusting life as a prostitute you never once remembered your childhood—when you were naked, squirming in your own blood” (Ezekiel 16:22, GNB).
Israel forgot how God had delivered them out of bondage. They forgot the signs and wonders He had done on their behalf. They forgot how God had given them victory over all their enemies and had established them as a great and mighty nation. After all that God had done, they hardened their hearts against Him and prostituted themselves with other gods. Not only were they unfaithful to Him, they set up idols in the temple and sacrificed their children to idols.
God’s love endured. In the depths of their sin, when Israel had totally forsaken Him, rejected His love and committed spiritual adultery with idol gods, God did not cast aside or destroy them. His love was strong and steadfast.
God told them: “I will treat you the way you deserve, because you ignored your promises and broke the covenant. But I will honor the covenant I made with you when you were young, and I will make a covenant with you that will last forever” (Ezekiel 16:59-60, GNB).
God loved Israel, yet He did not allow their sins to go unpunished. His judgment came upon them. Because of their unfaithfulness in keeping their covenant with Him, they reaped the curses that He had warned them about.
Israel was stripped naked of its power before the neighboring nations, with whom they had sinned by worshipping their idol gods. They were besieged and defeated by Assyrian and Chaldean armies, taken into Babylonian captivity for 70 years, and later were ruled by the iron hand of Rome. During the siege of Jerusalem under Titus, 1,100,000 Jews died by the sword, pestilence or famine; 97,000 were taken as prisoners into the slave market for a life of perpetual bondage. They were dispersed among the nations of the earth and became universally despised and oppressed.
Although God was angry with Israel and punished them, He did not forget them nor cease loving them. God’s love endured. Israel had been unfaithful and had broken the covenant with Him; yet, God did not forget His covenant with them, and He promised to establish a covenant that would last FOREVER. He said: “…I will honor the covenant I made with you when you were young, and I will make a covenant with you that will last forever” (Ezekiel 16:60, GNB).
He continued to reach out to them in love, wooing and pleading with Israel to repent and return to Him. God spoke through Jeremiah:
…Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever. Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD. Turn, 0 backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you… (Jeremiah 3:12-14)
Circle the word “married” in these verses. Even though Israel had forsaken Him, prostituted themselves with other gods and murdered their children in sacrifices to idols, He still considered Himself “married” to them.
God promised Israel through Hosea: “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him” (Hosea 14:4).
God spoke through Isaiah:
“For the Lord has called you like a woman forsaken, grieved in spirit and heartsore, even a wife (wooed and won) in youth, when she is later refused and scorned, says your God. For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion and mercies I gather you to Me again. In a little burst of wrath I hid My face from you for a moment, but with age-enduring love and kindness I will have compassion and mercy on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer. For this is as the days of Noah to Me; as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you. For though the mountains should depart and the hills be shaken or removed, yet My love and kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace and completeness be removed, says the Lord, Who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54:6-10, TAB)
As a loving father corrects his children, God in His love punished Israel. He said, “For a brief moment I forsook you…In a little burst of wrath I hid My face from you for a moment.” God, Who is altogether holy, would not tolerate their sin. He did not overlook it and turn His head the other way. It grieved His heart. He was angry. He punished them. But, God’s love endured. He told them, “…with great compassion and mercies I gather you to Me again…with age-enduring love and kindness I will have compassion and mercy on you.”
Regardless of what they had done in forsaking Him and prostituting themselves with other gods, God had bound Himself to Israel in EVERLASTING LOVE. He told them that regardless of what may happen in the future…even if the mountains and hills were shaken and removed…His love would NEVER depart from them. Just as He had sworn in His covenant with Noah that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood, He had sworn in His covenant to Israel that He would never break His covenant with them.
God did not break His covenant with Israel. His love kept on reaching out to man. According to His foreordained plan, God planned to bring restoration and enter into a new covenant that would be sealed with the blood of His only Son, and would last FOREVER!
God’s eternal love for us, which existed before the foundation of the earth, was not passive. It was not based upon emotion or upon man’s worthiness. Man deserved death. God would have been justified if He had totally destroyed man. But, as a DELIBERATE ACT OF HIS DIVINE WILL, God sent His own dearly beloved Son. According to His foreordained plan, He sent forth the command. Jesus, because of His great love for the Father and for us, obeyed.
“But when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God!” (Galatians 4:4-7, NAS)
God’s love for us is ETERNAL, EVERLASTING, SELF-SACRIFICING, UNSELFISH, ENDURING, FORBEARING, PATIENT, MERCIFUL, FORGIVING!
This is the love God wants you to know and experience as a REALITY in your life!
Say aloud:
“God wants ME to know and experience the height, breadth, length and depth of His love.”
God wants you to RECEIVE His love…to grasp hold of it as your own possession…not as a one-time experience, but to have a continual flow of His love into your life.
God wants you to EXPERIENCE His everlasting love for you. He wants you to live your life knowing that He has chosen and set you apart as His very own. He wants you to know and experience the love that He has for you as His own prized possession.
Through the New Covenant you have entered into with God, you have become one with Christ and ONE with Him. He has betrothed Himself to you in everlasting love and faithfulness in a covenant that will last FOREVER.
God wants you to walk in His love knowing that regardless of what may happen, regardless of how many times you may slip and fall, His love will NEVER, NEVER depart from you. Regardless of whether or not you remain faithful to Him, He will remain faithful. The Apostle Paul told Timothy, “If we are faithless (do not believe and are untrue to Him), He remains true (faithful to His Word and righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself” (II Timothy 2:13, TAB).
Do you realize what this means? You do not need to live your life in fear or dread that, if you slip and fall, God will forsake you. You do not need to live with the fear and condemnation concerning any sins you may have committed in the past, that they are too great for Him to forgive. You do not need to strive, through your good works, to be accepted and loved by God. God’s love for you is not dependent upon your worthiness, or upon your good works.
God loves you with an EVERLASTING love that is based upon His covenant with you, that He has sworn never to break.
As you walk in this revelation, God’s love within you is going to grow and reach full maturity. You will be able to live your life without FEAR, because His love perfected…brought to full maturity…within you will cast out all fear (I John 4:18). You will be able to come to God boldly, full of faith and confidence to “obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
God did not reject Israel after they had turned their backs on Him and prostituted themselves with other gods. Neither will God ever cast you aside. He will not overlook your sin or turn His head the other way. As a father punishes and corrects his children, God, in His love, will chastise you. You must recognize and receive it as a demonstration of His love for you.
Paul told the Hebrews: “For the Lord corrects and disciplines every one whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes. You must submit to and endure (correction) for discipline. God is dealing with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not (thus) train and correct and discipline?” (Hebrews 12:6-7, TAB).
God wants you to know and experience the depth of His love through His unlimited forgiveness. Just as He did not reject nor destroy Israel, but was still willing to forgive them even after they had continually refused to listen to Him pleading with them to return to Him, He is always ready with His arms outstretched to you in love, to forgive and restore you back to Himself. There is absolutely no limit to His forgiveness.
Regardless of how many times you come to Him for forgiveness, He will never turn you away. He will not only forgive your sins, but He totally eradicates them…wipes them out…and looks upon you as if you had never committed them. THIS IS GOD’S LOVE! This same powerful, supernatural love God has for us He has placed within us.
Say aloud: “God has planted within me a powerful, supernatural force (His love) that gives me the ability to love as He has commanded me to love!”
This is the love we are to have flowing through us to one another and to the world! God’s love within us is a powerful, supernatural force. It cannot remain passive. God’s love must be ACTIVE. We must DEMONSTRATE this same quality love to others through our actions. Before we can do this, we must first come to know and experience God’s love flowing into our lives.
Through His word we can have a clear revelation of the length, breadth, height and depth of God’s love and walk in it. We will only be able to demonstrate God’s love in proportion to what we have received and experienced in our own lives. We can not give what we do not have!
Next week in this Morris Cerullo Victory Miracle Living blog, we will go deeper into the revelation of God’s love for us that has been manifested to us through Jesus. God wants to release a powerful, spiritual force (His love) throughout the Body of Christ…within you. You will learn more about HOW you can demonstrate God’s love to the world. This week, receive a fresh, new revelation of God’s love for you.
Find a place right now where you can shut yourself in with God. Take time to just praise Him for the all-powerful love He has for you and has placed within you. Ask Him to take you beyond your level of experience…beyond head knowledge…where His love is a present REALITY…where there is a continual flow of His love in you and through you. I must demonstrate this same quality love to others through my actions! Amen!!
Beloved, if this Victory Miracle Living Blog has been a blessing to you, thank you for shairng this message with others. When we become channels of His love, we open the floodgates for Him to bless us in return. Will you allow Him to use you as a conduit of His love today? Thank you for sharing!
