Jews all around the world will begin observing the Day of Atonement, or Yom Kippur in the Hebrew language, at sunset on Friday, September 29, 2017. But did you know that many Christians all over the world will also observe the Day of Atonement? Do you know why they do that?

Beloved, the Hebrew people looked forward to the Day of Atonement as a defining time — the ONE DAY of the YEAR — when the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies for their sins. This is the holiest time of the year for God’s chosen people.

Atonement is not just a Jewish holiday … Atonement is God’s appointment for you. That’s why the Bible tells us to “keep the feast.” Atonement prefigures what Christ has done for us. It is a time for forgiveness and reconciliation.

What much of the Christian world has forgotten is that God never revoked His feasts of Atonement, Passover, and Pentecost. The promises and provisions that God established with these holy days still applies for us today! Just as Christ gave Himself as a sacrifice on a high, holy day, so God is calling us to worship Him and honor Him on the Day of Atonement.

The Lord established this day as “an everlasting ordinance” for us! God has given us specific seasons to celebrate and remember. Atonement is the first of God’s feasts. In Exodus 23:14—15, God gives us this direction, Three times thou shalt keep a feast to me in the year..

God promises to release a blessing unlike any other … this blessing can transform your life from lack to abundance, from sorrow to joy, and from struggle to plenty! God’s plan for this season of Atonement is that we honor Him … and receive His Atonement blessings!

Atonement is your time to experience God’s blessing and forgiveness
like no other time of the year.

The Hebrew word for atonement, Kaphar, literally means “to cover over; atone for sin; make atonement for.” Our death penalty has been paid for us, and our sins have been buried, or “covered over.” If there is one word that sums up this Atonement, it is FORGIVENESS. God forgives and restores. Psalm 103:12 says: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

This Atonement you are going to experience afresh the power of God’s forgiveness. This forgiveness will take you into a miraculous outpouring of restoration and restitution.

On the Day of Atonement, believe God for a new beginning, where God will release the power of restoration into your relationships, your finances, your spiritual life, and your physical needs! This restoration and restitution will come into your life once you have taken hold of the miracle of God’s forgiveness.

Beloved, on the Day of Atonement, we must humble ourselves before God and remember whose blood atoned for our sins. It is through the atonement of Christ that our faith has substance. It is through the atonement of Christ that we have forgiveness. It is through the atonement of Christ that we are saved.

Say this faith declaration out loud: Lord, thank You for Your gift of Atonement. Thank You for covering my sins. I will observe the Day of Atonement as Your Word instructs me to do. I receive Your gift of forgiveness, and will start my new beginning of restoration and restitution in my relationships, my spiritual life, and my finances. Amen.
