- Want to keep your New Year’s resolutions? Here’s how ~ FOX News
Beloved, are you thinking about what changes you can make this year? If you could change anything you wanted, what would it be: Your physical appearance? Your finances? Your walk with God? And, how do you make these changes, and stick with them? Can you change? Do you need to?
Today, I want to teach you how God wants to work in your life. The greatest power in the whole world is the power of faith in God! Here is a key: God never demands or expects anything of us that He does not require of Himself.
In Psalm 139:14 we learn, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
We are already “fearfully” and “wonderfully” made! Any change we need to make needs to start on the inside. We need a transfiguration. I used the word “transfigure” because this same Greek word was used for the transfiguration of Christ when the true glory of Christ began to shine through his humanity: … and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them (Mark 9:2-3).
“Transfigure” means to be changed or transformed from one thing to another. Think of it this way. When Jesus was transfigured, he did not cease to be Jesus. In that moment James, Peter and John saw as much of the true divinity of Christ as any man can see, and still live. They saw the true Son of God from heaven. He did not cease to be a man, but his true identity was revealed to them.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2
Can we do the same? How can we change from the inside-out? We must start with the Word of God. The apostle John said: Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is (I John 3:2, NKJV). Although he was talking about what it will be like in heaven with our Lord, it can also be applied to our life today.
In Romans 8:29, God shows us that He is unwavering in His will that we all be like Jesus. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son …
One of the most central themes of the entire Bible, beginning with the first chapter of Genesis through the last chapter of Revelation, is the fact that when God speaks there has to be a fulfillment … it cannot fail. In every book of the Bible, somehow and in some manner, this characteristic of God is brought forth.
Before you start your New Year with resolutions that you may—or may not—be able to keep, research God’s Word and what it can do to make 2018 be a year of transfiguration for YOUR life.
God’s Word:
- Was breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16).
- Can cause new birth (1 Peter 1:23).
- Is wisdom that is higher than any human’s thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).
- Can pierce through and see all of our inner being (Hebrews 4:12).
- Is the Word that no one can live apart from (Matthew 4:4).
- Lights our path (Psalm 119:105).
- Is eternal and will never perish (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35).
- Is tested to be true (Proverbs 30:5).
Beloved, if the Word in us does not produce action, then it has not been quickened by the Holy Spirit. To put it another way, if the Word that we have received has been quickened by the Holy Spirit—it has to produce life-it has to produce action. Faith is a fact, but faith is also an act!
Say this faith declaration out loud: Heavenly Father, thank you for another year, and a new beginning. As we walk into this New Year together, please change me from the inside-out so that I may be transformed by the renewing of my mind, and prove that which is good, and acceptable, and perfect, as Your will. Amen.
