- Suicide is NOT in God’s plan for your life.
Many believers know God is able to do anything and that He can work a miracle in their lives, but the question in each heart and mind is, “Will God do it for me?”
That question alone can become an ongoing battle for those struggling with depression, hardships, and hopelessness – sometimes overwhelming one’s thoughts with a lack of the will to live. Where does one find the strength, the will, and the hope to go on? Seek the Presence of God. It is God’s will to heal you …
The LORD is near the heartbroken. And He saves those that are crushed in spirit …
Psalm 34:18 (AMP)
The recent suicides of celebrity icons, Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, have reminded all of us that even for the wealthy and famous, life can become too painful to bear. Suicide rates have been increasing by nearly 30 percent in the United States over the last decade, with women and teens particularly affected. And it’s not just the United States. Suicide is increasingly taking a toll on individuals and families throughout the world.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
We are part of a family, and when one of our members suffers, we all suffer. God has shown me that many within our family, His family, are suffering. God has not changed, and His Word stands firm through eternity. God cares about you. He has seen your suffering and heard your cries. And, not only does God care about you, I care.
I want to share with you a tremendous turning point in my life. I grew up in a Jewish Orthodox orphanage and late one night, I, too, contemplated taking my life. Overwhelmed with failure of my past, and with no hope for anything better, a suggestion came to me … an eight year old boy … to end it all – commit suicide. There seemed to be nothing left for which to live. This was the devil’s last attempt to keep me from the Lord.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Roman 8:18
As I threw open the window and stared down to the pavement below, I felt an unusual Presence. Although I saw no one, I knew I was not alone. At this great moment, gazing up at the stars and moon with all their brightness and glory, I felt a particular sensation from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet. No longer distressed, no longer despondent, I climbed down and returned down the hall to my bed. Little did I know, that turning point in my life was just the beginning of what God was going to do in and through me as I yielded myself to Him.
You are not alone. As you are going through times of mental stress and anxiety, financial need, heartbreak, addiction, depression, or physical suffering … remember that the Lord feels your infirmities. Jesus’ heart was also broken. He was battered, betrayed, abandoned, and rejected, but He emerged victorious. That’s good news for us, because it means we can emerge victorious!
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Mark 11:23
This is God’s promise to us … to you and me. Praise God! God wants to turn your life around. He wants to turn your sorrow into joy. He will turn your enemies from before you until they will be amazed. He wants to turn your fear into courage, your weakness into strength. He will turn your doubts into faith and your eyes will begin to see things you have never seen before!
… those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
This is God’s timing for you. No longer do you have to continue walking down the road of fear, frustration, and defeat. God is lifting you up. God is setting your feet on a new path that is going to lead you into a greater relationship with Him, until the unsearchable riches of Christ are pouring forth from your innermost being. Your life is changed, transformed, renewed.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5—6
So, child of God, don’t lose hope. Don’t give up! God has not forgotten nor forsaken you. You are safe within His hands and He is turning your life around.
The good news is that today, there are more and more resources for talking about and preventing suicide. Such efforts recognize that God especially loves those who suffer in the darkness of depression; an all-too-common threat that calls us to reaffirm hope in life as a precious gift given by God.

Say this faith declaration out loud: God has given me the power to pick myself up, so I will now rise and depend completely on Christ, Who has won victory for me, and receive from Him the answer to my every need. Father God, in Jesus’ Name, renew a right spirit within me. Fill me with Your light, Father, and bring peace into my heart and mind. Thank You, Father.
