Trending News This Week: Onward Christian Superheroes – Christianity Today
God loves to use ordinary people, like you and me, to do extraordinary things. God told Noah to build a boat, Job was tested by God, Moses lead God’s people out of Egypt, David killed Goliath and became the second king of Israel. Daniel slept in a den full of lions. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego danced in fire with Jesus. Esther went before the king and saved her people. Peter’s shadow fell on many laying sick in the street, and they were healed.
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13, NIV
It all sounds like tales of superheroes and legends of yesteryear, and days gone by or futuristic movies … just as we see all over our TV screens and movie theater posters. Perhaps, even the latest comic book series. You ask, “What are you taking about Dr. Cerullo?”
Comic books and superheroes are not known to be associated with Christian culture and the moral principles of the Bible.
It’s time for the stereotype to end. We can set aside the casting of darkness and light, corruption between good and evil, death and life, good guys and villains … or perhaps, the similarities between parables of the Bible and those relatable in the pages of a comic book are more apparent now than ever before.
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
Luke 4:18-19, NIV
Perhaps, there’s a place for Christian comic books in today’s world … to engage our youth in the Word of the Lord. My talented staff, along with the creative talents of The Quadrivium Group and PlainJoe Studios, recently embarked on a fresh endeavor … delivering my Proof Producers core teachings and biblical parables in the most exciting, captivating way. We have released our very own series of six comic books, The Legends of Lightfall.
God once told me, “Son, build me an army.” This army includes our youth. My passion to spread the gospel to all the nations just expanded and my heart for the generations to come exploded with Christ’s love.
The Legends of Lightfall, Descent to Steamhaven, Volume #1, ministers to our beloved youth in such a way that they see God’s Word is undeniable. Anyone can be a minister. Just as God loves to use you and me to minister, he welcomes our youth first and foremost. Magma Rising, Volume #2 shares the parable of The Fiery Furnace (Daniel 6) and my power principle: Discovering your Divine Purpose.
There are four more comic books in the series, each with their own parallel parable and intertwined with my core teachings specific to the needs and concerns of our youth today. Each comic book has an accompanying Application Guide, designed to bring you and your children deeper into the Word with discussion points, engaging activities, and scripture readings.
God loves to use ordinary people, like you and me, to do extraordinary things. Together, we strive to open the door, letting Christian belief inform the nature of the characters and the conflicts. In The Legends of Lightfall, we venture with our own superhero, Kort, exploring how the forces of darkness and peril, and power and light can alter the very nature of a superhero and his world. I’m excited to press open the door to our youth; the Lord has knocked. I encourage you to join our eternal quest to share the Word in a new, refreshing way. Join the army.
