- Yes, Christians Do Hear God’s Voice ~The Christian Post
When God speaks, do you listen? George Washington Carver once said, “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if only we will tune in.” There is value in knowing the ways in which God speaks to us, so we can hear, and obey His voice. But first, we need to “tune in.”
Beloved, no obstacle is too big for God! There is victory over your circumstances, but you must put your hope in the Lord. This is the key to defeating overwhelming conditions. When you shift the focus of your thoughts from yourself (and all that you have to do) to GOD and His amazing power, you open a door for Him to help you overcome every challenge you face!
Beloved, in Psalm 46:10, God tells us: Be still, and know that I am God … Do you know there are innumerable ways in which God speaks to us, if only we are willing listeners?
God manifests His will for our lives, and He has a will for your life. Sometimes when you get a sense inside you of what you should do, that is the voice of God trying to speak to you. We must read God’s Word, and pray with open hearts and minds, and then we will understand what God speaks to us.
In the Old Testament, Moses sent twelve of the leaders of the tribes of Israel, including Caleb, to explore the Promised Land. After exploring for forty days, they returned. They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit (Numbers 13:27, NIV).
Caleb encouraged the people and said, We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it (Numbers 13:30, NIV). The remaining leaders said, We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are (Numbers 13:31, NIV).
At this point, the people had heard three voices: the voice of God, the voice of faith, and the voice of unbelief. God had spoken to them through Moses. He had promised to give them this land. He had promised to drive out their enemies before them. He had told them to go in and take possession of the land. No further discussion or consideration was necessary. All that was necessary was for them to hear the voice of God and simply obey.
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Luke 11:28
Prayer prepares us to hear God. Studying the Word prepares us to hear God. Knowing Jesus’ teachings prepares us to hear God. Listening and waiting prepares us to hear God.
The key for the fulfillment of hearing God is developing a relationship with Christ where He is in you, and where you are continually dwelling in Him and allowing His Word to rule and reign in your life.
Jesus said: If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7).
When you stay in His presence, waiting upon Him, fellowshipping with, and worshiping Him—that is when He speaks to you—that is when you hear God.
Beloved, study the following scriptures that teach us the many ways that God speaks to us. Reflect on His Word, pray, be still, and wait. When God speaks to you, you will know, and understand what He is telling you. Here are some of the ways God speaks:
- Through His Son and Spirit (I Corinthians 3:16).
- Through His Word (II Timothy 3:16-17).
- Through prayer (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Through dreams and thoughts (Matthew 1:20).
- Through His creation (Romans 1:19-20).
- Through circumstances (Jonah 1-4).
- Through His prophets (II Chronicles 20:20) Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.
Beloved, the Scriptures say that when we draw near to Him, God will draw near to us. He wants to speak to us every day, if only we will listen. Learn to listen so that you have the confidence when He speaks, to know that it is Him. Let Him guide you in His truth, as you obey His voice in whatever way He calls to you.
Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, thank You for being the One who speaks to me. Thank You for giving me an ear to hear. I will study the Scriptures, pray, and wait on YOU, Father, so that I may be open to Your voice, and recognize it when You speak to me. Amen.
