  • Many people misinterpret “stand” to mean “don’t move.”

When the Lord says to “stand,” He does not necessarily mean to stay in one place. This is a common misconception in the Body of Christ and causes many Christians to miss out on their blessings.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Ephesians 6:13

This verse has been the source of much confusion. The word “stand” does not necessarily mean to stay in one place and do not move forward. The proper context here means to stand your ground, with your feet planted firmly on the Word, in the Name of Jesus, and not give way to the wiles of the devil.

This portion of Scripture, describing the armor of God, says that our feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15). What are feet used for? To move us from one place to another. Receiving from God usually requires us to first take a “step” of faith.

  • The children of Israel had to take that first step out of their homes and away from the only life they knew before the Lord parted the Red Sea and led them out of Egypt (bondage) and towards the Promised Land. (Exodus 14)
  • Jesus told the blind man to “go” and wash in the pool of Siloam. He “went” by faith, washed, and came back “seeing.” (John 9:6-7)
  • The widow woman had to obey the prophet and go out and collect as many empty vessels that she could get her hands on before she received provision during a time of great famine. (II Kings 4)

Beloved, unless the Holy Spirit is specifically prompting you to stand still and wait on the Lord, then take that first step towards your calling, your dreams, your goals, your desires. You will find that if you are going in the right direction, the Lord will open doors and lead you forward - step by step. Don’t let fear stop you. Put your feet in motion and get going.

Now, don’t take this to mean that you should take off at full speed, charging through roadblocks and “stop” signs. No! Proceed slowly, with caution, always listening for the leading of the Holy Spirit, Who will direct your steps. You may find that it will take some time to get from point A to point B, but if you don’t get going now, you will never get there.

A Partner recently called for prayer, upset about being passed over for a promotion at work. He had been “standing” in faith, and felt sure that his promotion was imminent. During our time of prayer with the Partner, the Lord indicated that the Partner should “get off his faith, and do something” (The Lord can be quite funny in the way He puts things). The Partner knew immediately in his spirit that the Lord wanted him to get more training in his field. So, he put his faith into action and enrolled in some courses.

Beloved, is there a difficult decision that you have been hesitant to make, or to take a step towards? Perhaps a move to a new location, beginning your own business or ministry, going to school? Stop standing around waiting for something to happen. Pray, and then take that first step forward. The Lord will be your compass. Success and victory await you!

Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, I will take that step of faith in the direction I feel You are leading me. I will now release my cares and concerns to you. I will “stand” firm on the Word, while “moving” forward towards victory and success. My feet were made for walking! I will not be afraid! Amen.

Scripture Reading:

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:6—7

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:18

… faith without works is dead?

James 2:20
