- The wise man that hears the voice of God, and acts upon it, is abundantly blessed.
When you follow Jesus, you are able to hear His voice; when you seek Him, He WILL speak to you and guide you in all of your ways!
In the Book of Matthew, chapter 7, verses 24 and 26, Jesus said:
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock … And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
A foolish listener will hear the voice of God, but will not act upon it. A wise listener will hear and act upon instructions from God. One listener is a hearer of the Word only; the other is both a hearer and a doer. Beloved, you must not only come to know the voice of God, you must also learn to respond in obedience to that voice.
Do you want to be able to know God’s voice? Then you must first learn to distinguish it from the voice of the enemy. One of Satan’s strategies is to disguise his voice to confuse and deceive Christians into hearing and following other voices, so that they will mistakenly believe that the voice they are hearing belongs to God.
Before sin came into the world, our body was subject to our soul and spirit. When our communication with God was broken through sin, man began to rely on his own physical or earthly senses. Man’s nature became self-serving, self-pleasing, and negative. Mankind could now hear the voice of Satan. That is why it is so important to discern which voice is speaking to you. You need to take everything that comes into your mind, sort it all out, and recognize which messages line up with God’s Word and which do not.
One means of discerning the voices you hear is to examine the character behind the voice. I want you to understand why what you listen to is so important. When you listen to speakers, preachers, and politicians, you open your heart to them and receive their spirit. Children adopt mannerisms and speech and thought patterns from their parents. When you open your heart to your spouse, you become one in the sense that your spirits are joined together.
I am telling you this, because whenever you open your heart to a ministry, you are going to receive their characteristics. Be careful not to open your heart to a wolf in sheep’s clothing. If a man says things with his lips that are right — but in his heart he is a thief, an adulterer, a homosexual, covetous, a murderer, or something else — then he has a spirit that you do not wish to be transferred upon you.
If you want to be holy and be able to hear the voice of the Lord, then only allow that which is godly into your mind and spirit. Sin is contagious; holiness isn’t.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
Haggai 2:11-13
If a holy person touches something that is unclean, he does not make it holy. If uncleanness touches something that is holy, it contaminates it. Therefore, you must be careful about what you receive, who you receive it from, and what their motives are. You must know their character.
To hear God’s voice, you must shut out all over voices, and spend time fellowshipping with Him. Practice by writing down what you hear Him speak, and ALWAYS compare it to the Bible. If it doesn’t agree, then throw it out.
Say this faith declaration out loud: I declare that because I am His sheep, and He is my shepherd, I hear His voice, and the voice of a stranger I will not follow. I will listen closely, compare all things to the written Word, and then act upon what God speaks to me. Amen.
Scripture Reading:
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
John 10:4-5
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Jeremiah 33:3
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Mark 4:24
… blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Luke 11:28
