- Kids Raised Religiously Have Better Health – ChristianHeadlines.com
A Harvard study recently released findings on a 14-year study, researching whether religion during primitive years to adolescence affects physical and mental health as they age. The study determined children who attend religious services were 18% happier in their 20s, 30% more likely to do volunteer work, and 33 % less likely to abuse substances during young adulthood.
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called the little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom in heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But who shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:1-6
When our children are young, it is our job to raise them in the light of the Word of the Lord, instructing them in how they should worship Him:
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
It is our responsibility to give our children the biggest head start in Christianity that we can. We are to teach them the principles of the Gospel, give them the understanding of why we are Christians, and what Jesus has done for us.
Indeed, Jesus Himself said that children were able and desired to understand the Gospel:
Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:13-14
In other words, children are completely capable of understanding God and coming to Jesus. As such, we should do everything we can while children are under our charge to introduce them to Jesus and bring them into the Kingdom of God.
Christianity is not something you can inherit – it is something you must choose.
Everyone has to build their own relationship with Jesus, and that means that no matter what your relationship with Jesus is, your children will one day have to talk to Him for themselves and build a one-on-one relationship with Him based on their own faith and obedience.
