- An eagle can sense an impending storm, and has learned how to endure it by soaring above it.
Beloved, we too can learn to endure the storms that come by rising above them.
When an eagle senses that a storm is near, he flies to the highest place he can reach, spreads his wings, and locks them into place. Then, when the storm hits, he is lifted up high above it, instead of being tossed to and fro. This life-preserving technique is something that we can learn from.
I would love tell you that you can avoid storms, but we all know that they are inevitable. They will come, and the best we can do is be prepared. Preparation comes by daily putting on the full armor of God. In Ephesians 6:11, Paul says: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Paul describes the armor:
… having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ephesians 6:14-18
Beloved, please note the last piece of armor that Paul mentions – prayer. Too often when we hear about the pieces of armor listed, prayer is omitted from the list. That is very unfortunate, because without it, the other pieces of armor will not be as effective. And take special note of the manner in which we are instructed to pray – in the Spirit. This means that we are to pray in our heavenly language – the language that has been given to us by the Holy Spirit that our enemy (the devil) cannot understand.
Note also that Paul says that we should pray for each other with all perseverance and supplication. This means that we are to keep our fellow Christian soldiers covered in sincere and persistent, heartfelt prayer. This is much, much more serious than “God bless so and so.” This is praying forth particular Scriptures, referencing particular needs, and doing it on a regular basis. It is with this fervency that Theresa and I pray for our Partners. It is this type of prayer that accesses the throne room of God and destroys the enemy’s plans of destruction.
When you pray, go into your prayer closet, shut the door, pray in the Spirit (and also with your understanding), lay out your specific prayer requests to God (with Scriptures to back them up), and stand firmly in the knowledge that the Word of God will prevail.
Can you imagine the kind of devil-destroying power and strength that would come if we all prayed for each other in this manner?
Beloved, when we put on the full armor of God, not forgetting Spirit-led prayer and supplication for other saints, we will be fully equipped to not only endure the storm, but to rise above it, just like the eagle.
Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, thank You for providing me with everything I need to rise high above every storm that comes my way. I will daily prepare myself, as all storms cannot be predicted, and I will keep myself clothed in Your heavenly armor, not forgetting to pray in the Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, I am victorious!
