Do you understand God’s plan and purpose for your life? Do you have Christ’s joy in full measure? Are you able to rejoice in even your darkest hour? Are you the head, and not the tail? Do you present yourself a living witness to the world?
Beloved, Christ has planned for us to have His joy deep inside our being that will sustain us regardless of the circumstances we face. As Christians, our spiritual maturity is when we have come to full age, where we stand, full-grown. Full maturity is nothing less than Christ’s own perfection.
As many of you know, I have an undying passion to deliver this world to the feet of Jesus. But not as baby Christians at His feet. Christ prayed for us that we might be saved and then mature, so that we can touch the lives of others and they will also come to know Him as Father.
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
John 17:18–19
Jesus came to die for the sins of the world and reconcile sinners to the Father, He prayed for the world, the sinners, and the ungodly. He also prayed for those who would believe in Him. He prayed for you and me!
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 17:20–21
Christ did not pray and ask the Father to remove you from difficult circumstances, rather He placed you where you are and gave you a mission to fulfill.
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Luke 22:23
The apostle Paul was completely focused on the mission he was given to do. He labored for the church. He proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever he went. He warned, admonished, and instructed everyone in all wisdom with the letters he wrote. He wanted every Christian to come to full maturity so that they could better serve Christ, and bring others to know Him as Savior.
to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Ephesians 4:12–13 (NIV)
God planned for you to be conformed and changed into the image of Christ. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29).
Every born-again believer is joined by God’s Spirit to Christ, Who is the Head of the Body of Christ. God’s purpose is that the members of the Body of Christ grow until we reach full spiritual maturity. The key to reaching the full maturity in our Christian walk is our union with Jesus Christ. In Christ, we are filled with the fullness of the Godhead and reach full spiritual stature to become a complete manifestation of Christ to the world.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:22–23
Beloved, as you grow in conviction of the Bible’s teachings and theology; when you use wisdom, and lean on God’s divine strength for your joy; as you build your character, defeat sin, and love God more in your everyday life; then, you will mature. Then, you will reach full spiritual maturity.
Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, all praise, honor, and glory is Yours. I will continue to grow in my walk with You by following the teachings of Your son, so that I may reach full maturity in my Christian walk and lead others to know You as Savior. Amen.
