Beloved, how many Christians are as concerned about the well-being of other believers as they are about their own well-being? How many Christians would be willing to sell what they have, if necessary, to help another member of the Body of Christ? How many Christians would be willing to go to prison or die for the sake of the Gospel?
Love originates and flows from God. He is the Source of love. His divine character is love. All of His actions are because of His love for humanity. To truly know God is to know His love.
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 15:16—17
As we manifest God’s love to others, His love lives in and remains within us. We are one with Him and one with Christ. Through this union and communion with Him, His supernatural, divine love will flow through us because as He is, so are we in this world!
… God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
I John 4:16—17
God does not want His love in you to remain dormant. He wants you to grow in your ability to grasp and shed His love to others. He wants you to recognize it, receive it, experience it, and manifest it to the world.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
I John 4:7
Jesus’ entire life was a visible expression of God’s love. He and the Father are one. God’s supernatural love is in Him and flows from Him. Through His life—His speech and His actions—the world sees God’s love.
As Jesus sat on the hillsides, in the synagogues, and in their homes, teaching them about the Kingdom of God, they saw God’s love in action. He had compassion on their hunger and supernaturally multiplied five loaves and two fish to feed them. They saw God’s love for them.
Jesus had mercy on the poor, the outcasts, the rejects, and the unclean people. He ministered to their needs, and they saw God’s love. Though they were rejected by society and shunned by other people, Jesus approached them, loved them, and ministered to their needs.
Jesus fellowshipped with and ate with sinners, and they saw God’s love. He healed their broken bodies, opened their blind eyes, and unstopped their deaf ears … and they saw God’s love. He forgave their sins, and they saw God’s love.
Jesus cleansed the lepers and raised the dead, and they saw God’s love. He cast out demons and delivered men and women from the power of Satan, and they saw God’s love.
Look at Romans 5:5: … the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Notice the word ‘shed’. The original meaning of the Greek word for the English word shed means “to gush out.” God’s agape love is in us and should gush out of us to others.
God’s love is so great toward us that He has poured His love into our hearts in a mighty, gushing stream through the holy spirit. His love, His very nature, has made it possible for us to manifest His unsurpassable love to one another. He has made it possible for us to live in an atmosphere that is charged with His almighty love!
God has planned for His children to live in an atmosphere where His agape love is gushing forth from our lives and bringing us into perfect unity with Him and with each other. AS HE IS, SO ARE WE!
Beloved, God has placed the same supernatural love that was within Jesus within us. We are commanded to love one another with the same supernatural love that the Father has for Jesus and that Jesus has for us. This divine love is the evidence of being born-again. (See I John 4:7.)
Say this faith declaration out loud: Father, thank You for Your love. I will love others with the same powerful, selfless love with which Christ loved (and continues to love) me even when I don’t feel like it or want to. It doesn’t matter what level of love I think I am capable of, I will love as You love me. Amen.
