DC Metro Officer Arrested for Trying to Help ISIS
“A U.S. police officer working for the DC Metro Transit has been arrested and charged for attempting to help the Islamic State. Nicholas Young, a Fairfax, Virginia native, was taken into custody Wednesday. Young is accused of purchasing mobile messaging app gift cards he hoped to pass along to ISIS fighters overseas.
The plan was to give those gift cards to an ISIS fighter who would give them to fellow members of ISIS. That fighter was actually an undercover agent. Mobile messaging apps are often used by ISIS to aid in covert communications. According to court documents, Young wrote to the undercover agent, ‘Respond to verify receipt … may not answer depending on when as this device will be destroyed after all are sent to prevent the data being possibly seen on this end in the case of something unfortunate.’
Young had been on the FBI’s radar since 2010 after Metro coworkers reported him for suspicious behavior. The FBI became even more suspicious after two 2011 trips to Libya. He told investigators he went there to help the rebels in their battle to overthrow Muammar Qaddafi. Undercover agents have since met with Young on 20 separate occasions. He was arrested in Washington, D.C., at the headquarters and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.”
ISIS Warns American, British Christian Clergy, Congregants: You’re Next
“Following the brutal murder of an elderly Catholic Priest in France, ISIS has publicly warned British Christian clergy and their congregants: you’re next. Police publicly warned Britain’s 5.4 million Christian church goers, pastors and clergy to be on alert as they are likely targets for ISIS. The Daily Mail reports that security has now been increased for Britain’s 47,000 churches in response to ISIS’s threat to target Christians and churches in major world cities. Roughly 5.4 million British citizens are church members. ‘Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said: ‘Following recent events in France, we are reiterating our protective security advice to Christian places of worship and have circulated specific advice today. We are also taking this opportunity to remind them to review their security arrangements as a precaution. Daesh and other terrorist groups have targeted Christian as well as Jewish and other faith groups in the West and beyond. While the threat from terrorism remains unchanged at severe we urge the public to be vigilant.’
Citing analysts at the SITE intelligence group, the Mail reports that London is on an ISIS hit list of cities it plans to target next. But, London is not alone. America is next. ISIS released pictures of major world cities online, two of which are New York City and Washington, D.C. One image ISIS published is of the Statue of Liberty on fire with a caption that reads: ‘Washington soon.’ And: ‘OUR BATTLE ON YOUR LAND HAS NOT STARTED YET BE UPON YOU ONLY WAITING.’ ISIS urges its followers to attack churches, which it refers to as ‘Christian crusaders.’
- Pray for God’s intervention in stopping terrorist plans and attacks against individuals, strategic places and events, churches and Christians, and against our nation as a whole.
- Pray for God’s wisdom for our nation’s leaders to do everything they can to ensure the safety in our land and to protect our borders.
- Pray for God’s protection over all American troops at home and abroad, and also on all law enforcement officers.
New Study Finds Correlation between Depression and Same-Sex Parenting
“Children who grow up in same-sex parented households may face a significantly higher risk of depression later in life. That’s the conclusion of a study published a few weeks ago, without fanfare, in the open-access journal Depression Research and Treatment. The study found that young adults who had grown up with same-sex parents were more than twice as likely to be depressed as those raised by a mother and a father. The findings add to a growing body of research examining the effects of homosexual family structures. Gay parenting is a relatively recent phenomenon, and the available data on such families has been sparse.
The new study, ‘Invisible Victims: Delayed Onset Depression among Adults with Same-Sex Parents,’ claims to be the first to ‘examine children raised by same-sex parents into early adulthood.’ It uses survey data that followed adolescents over a period of 13 years. ‘We know that a lot of distressing experiences that children have growing up don’t really begin to manifest until they enter their 20s and start to form their own families,’ said D. Paul Sullins, a sociologist at The Catholic University of America and the author of the study. (The Catholic University of America also funded the research.)
Sullins’ study found that although only 18 percent of children in same-sex households reported feeling symptoms of depression as adolescents (about the same rate as children with opposite-sex parents), about half of same-sex-parented children had become depressed after reaching the age of about 28. By comparison, only about one-fifth of children of opposite-sex parents were depressed in adulthood. The high rate of depression was linked to corresponding higher rates of obesity, feelings of stigma, and a sense of emotional distance from parents among children in same-sex-parented households. For example, the study found that 72 percent of children from households parented by same-sex couples were obese as adults, compared to just 37 percent of adults from traditional households. Adults who grew up in same-sex-parented households were also more likely to report having recently thought seriously about committing suicide (30 percent, compared to 7 percent of adults with opposite-sex parents), and more likely to have experienced verbal, physical, or sexual abuse by a parent or caregiver.”
- Pray that God will give wisdom and guidance to the children of same-sex parents, to seek counsel to help them in their crises.
- Pray that God will make a way for them to find salvation in Christ, that He will use His people to minister to the needs of these children, and that He will raise ministries to reach out to meet their needs.
- Pray that God will intervene in the preservation of the sanctity of marriage in our nation.
Will Your Child’s Elementary School Host a Satan Club?
“Members of the Satanic Temple want to start ‘After School Satan Clubs’ in elementary schools across America in an effort to push back against Christian clubs, according to The Washington Post. Chapter leaders from New York, Boston, Utah and Arizona met in Salem, Massachusetts, to discuss their plans on July 10. They were joined online by others from Detroit, Florida, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and San Jose. Their strategy: target districts where schools host an after-school Christian program called the Good News Club. The group plans to introduce the clubs this week; it’s petitioning school leaders to grant them permission to start when the school year begins.
‘It’s critical that children understand that there are multiple perspectives on all issues, and that they have a choice in how they think,’ Doug Mesner, the Satanic Temple’s co-founder, who also goes by the name Lucien Greaves, told the Post. The newspaper reports that the Satanic Temple’s goal is not for elementary students to worship the devil. The group doesn’t hold to a belief in Satan and it is against every type of supernaturalism, according to the Post. Greaves said ‘Satan’ is a ‘metaphorical construct’ which symbolizes taking a stand against all forms of repression of the human mind.
‘While the Good News Clubs focus on indoctrination, instilling children with a fear of hell and God’s wrath, After School Satan Clubs will focus on free inquiry and rationalism,’ Greaves said. ‘We prefer to give children an appreciation of the natural wonders surrounding them, not a fear of an everlasting other-worldly horror.’ The Good News Club’s website says, ‘Each club includes a clear presentation of the Gospel and an opportunity for children to trust the Lord Jesus as Savior. Every club also includes strong discipleship training to build character and strengthen moral and spiritual growth.’ The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2001 that banning an after-school program because of the sponsors’ religious views went against freedom of speech. The case utilized the resources of Alliance Defending Freedom and Liberty Counsel, organizations which promote religious freedom.”
- Pray for God’s intervention to stop the plans of Satanists wanting to establish Satan Clubs in elementary schools.
- Pray for God’s wisdom and guidance for all of those in authority over our schools, so they will make the right decisions regarding this matter.
- Pray for God’s protection over the hearts and minds of all children, and for the wisdom for all parents.
Zika Spreads To Military While Vaccine Efforts Hit A Snag
“The Pentagon confirms more than 40 U.S. service members have been infected with the Zika virus. One of them is a pregnant woman. All of the cases were contracted outside the United States. Zika is transmitted from mosquito bites or through sexual contact with an infected person.
Most people recover without incident. Many people don’t even experience symptoms. Those who do, complain of flu-like issues. However, Zika strikes unborn children particularly hard. Women who contract Zika during pregnancy can deliver babies with severe birth defects, including microcephaly, a condition that causes a baby to be born with an unusually small head and brain damage. Therefore, pregnant women are being advised to avoid areas where Zika outbreaks are common, and people who have visited those areas should wait at least 8 weeks before conceiving a child.
Those areas include Central and South America, and for the first time, an area within the continental United States. A one-mile area north of downtown Miami, Florida, is the site of the first homegrown Zika outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 15 cases of Zika were contracted from local mosquitoes in that area. All other Zika cases in the continental United States were travel-related and originated elsewhere.”
- Pray for God’s healing for those infected with this virus, especially those who are pregnant, and for God’s intervention to prevent this virus from infecting more people and spreading in more places.
- Pray for God’s protection on all American troops and diplomatic personnel deployed in areas where this virus is present.
- Pray for God’s mercy and grace to cause these circumstances, for individuals and our nation, to turn to Him in faith and repentance.
Praise Report 1: Tennessee Newspaper Lifts Ban on Word ‘Christian’ Deemed Too ‘Offensive’ to Print
“A Tennessee newspaper that banned an ad from a Christian bookstore because it included the controversial word ‘Christian,’ has reversed its decision. Curtis McGinnis of Cedar Springs Christian Stores told The Christian Post on Monday that ‘When my wife, Lois, called to find out why our ad did not run, she was told that the ad did not go through because it had an offensive word in it. She asked what was the offensive word and the lady told her ‘Christian,’ and the word was on the offensive word list,’ McGinnis added.
News of the ad rejection over the word Christian being labeled offensive garnered much outrage from supporters of Cedar Springs Christian Stores, who sent several complaints to the Knoxville News Sentinel. In a statement posted to their Facebook page last Friday, the bookstore thanked those who offered support to the Christian company. The Knoxville News Sentinel is now running an ad from Cedar Springs Christian Stores about their sale, and McGinnis reports that the newspaper also gave us an extra two days free.’
‘We have enjoyed a working relationship with the Knoxville News Sentinel and appreciate the work they do in our community,’ the bookstore’s owners wrote on their website. ‘We are grateful that they are now printing our ad and hope that the awareness brought to this issue will prevent mistakes like this going forward.’”
Praise Report 2 : Christian Flag Removed After Atheist Complaint Is Back Legally at Tenn. School Board Meetings
A Christian flag that was removed earlier this year from a Tennessee school board meeting room flies again inside the chambers thanks to the actions of a local church group. In January, the Unicoi County School Board of Education voted to remove a Christian flag from its chambers and donate it to the local Unicoi County Ministerial Association. Since then, the Ministerial Association has flown the very Christian flag donated to them months ago during school board meetings. The Reverend Noah Taylor, head of the Association and pastor at Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church, told The Christian Post that flying the flag at meetings ‘was an issue that many citizens and churches in our community were deeply passionate about.’
‘We have over 70 churches in a county with approximately 16,000 residents, so many felt that the Christian flag should stay,’ said Rev. Taylor. ‘This was a solution that we prayerfully considered and felt that it was one that would serve the people in our community and honor Christ. The flag is displayed on a daily basis at the local YMCA.’ Taylor also told CP that the flag has been on display ‘at the majority of meetings,’ with some meetings “missed due to a simple miscommunication” among volunteers.
Last November, the Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a complaint letter to Unicoi County over a Christian flag existing in their school board meeting room. The flag had been there for about 20 years. Initially, the board opposed the FFRF’s demands to remove the flag. Unicoi County Board of Education Chairman Tyler Engle told local media last year that they were not planning to move the flag.
‘I’m unsure as to how long the flag has been displayed here, you know its not something that is intentionally brought out at every meeting, it is here in the room even when the board doesn’t meet,’ said Engle to WJHL last year. ‘Our attorney is carefully reviewing the constitutional precedent and the constitutional law as well as the case law that is cited in the letter. The board is not planning to take immediate action.’ However, in January the board voted unanimously to remove the Christian flag and donate it to the local Ministerial Association that Taylor heads. ‘The room was silent Thursday night as people watched Director of Schools John English present the flag to the Unicoi County Ministerial Association,’ reported WJHL in January.
‘While nobody spoke out on behalf of the Christian flag, there was silent support. Some people brought posters, flags, and even one board member was wearing a shirt with the Christian flag front and center.’ English told WJHL in January that “we’re just not allowed to endorse a particular religion” and therefore the flag had to be removed. Regarding potential litigation over the new way of displaying the flag, Taylor responded that they worked with school officials and counsel to find a legal way to display it at the meeting room. ‘We sought legal counsel concerning the issue, and our attorney informed us that as private citizens of the county we had every right to display the flag as long as it didn’t disrupt or impede on the meetings,’ explained Taylor. ‘Theoretically, any citizen could display any flag of their choosing, thus those of the Christian community are able to display the Christian flag.’”
